Why you can be both a wise Ravenclaw and Adventurous Thunderbird

First of all, I am a harry potter as you can tell from the title and a proud Ravenclaw. When the new wizard school sorting test came out on potter more I got really excited to do the test.I will tell you about my sorted house and my thoughtsbut let me tell you about the school first. You can read the full story on pottermore

As you may know there are 4 houses in this new american wizarding school, Ilvermony. Those house are named after magical beasts/creatures rather than founders. The founder of the school is actually from United Kingdom and her name is Isolt Sayre. Isolt Sayre is kind of a victim of pure-blood racism. She was the daughter of a pure-blood family living in Iraland, her family were friends with muggle and they were helping to muggle with their magic. However her mother's sister was not so fond of muggles, so simply she set fire, and while Isolt's family burned to death, Aunt Gormlaith Gaunt saved the little Isolt Sayre. Time passed and little Isolt grew up to realise that her saviour in fact was the murderer of her parents. Meanwhile Gormlaith Gaunt thought magic to Isolt along with stories of Hogwarts. One day Isolt grabbed her aunt's wand and run away to North America.

In short in America she healed 2 orphaned boy and adopted them, saved a magical creature called Pukwudgie who happens to hate humans, and fell in love with a local muggle ( or no-maj as they say in America). When her sons came to school age she founded the Ilvermony School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. The school gradually started taking more students and is one of the biggest school of witchcraft and wizardry. Ilvermony had the hogwarts as an example, but they did some stuff differently.

I strongly recommend you to read the full story on pottermore if you want to know more about what Isolt have been through

Ilvermony Houses were named after Isolt's family's favourite creatures and houses can be seen below with descriptions;

• Horned Serpent – a ‘great horned river serpent with a jewel set into its forehead’ • Pukwudgie – ‘a short, grey-faced, large-eared creature’ • Thunderbird – a creature that ‘can create storms as it flies’ • Wampus – ‘a magical, panther-like creature that is fast, strong and almost impossible to kill’

A student can be sorted to more than one house in the sorting ceremony, and the student should choose which house she/he wants to be a part of. Each house favours a special trait as described below;

Thunderbird

Description: Each of the four Ilvermorny houses is said to represent a different part of the ideal wizard. Thunderbird is the “soul” and “favors adventurers,” according to the Pottermore description.

Horned Serpent

Description: The Horned Serpent is said to represent the mind of a wizard, and favors scholars. Because of that whole aura, it’s easy to imagine Horned Serpent students remaining a little aloof from their brethren.

Pukwudgie

Description: The Pukwudgie, true to their namesake creature’s role in protecting Isolt Sayre from her deadly aunt, represents the heart of a wizard, and favors healers.

Wampus

Description: Wampus represents the body of a wizard and favors warriors.

I did the test and I found that I am a Thunderbird, I was shocked with the result since I am a Ravenclaw, I was expecting to be sorted into Horned Serpent. This led to a low-key identity crises, because I thought Thunderbird as Gryffindor  equivalent. After days o thinking this doesn't make sense, I realised one can be both.

Remember, at Hogwarts sorting hat sometimes has a hard time figuring out where to put one who has the both traits of 2 houses. Perhaps we can say that dividing students to houses is a flawed way. However what I'm trying to say is one can be an adventurous Ravenclaw who loves their adventures of visiting museums and art galleries and coffee shops in a strange city. Or one can be a wise and smart Thunderbird who loves exploring the woods and finding new places and into nature photography. This is why, one can be both and be happy.

I always identified myself as a Ravenclaw, but what I realised is that I love visiting new cities and countries, going to their museums, drinking coffee in little shops of that strange city, or just walking around, exploring the city and taking lots of photos. At the end of the day definition of an adventure depends on us.
